SAUNSTEJN - LOUPEZNICKY HRAD

Lusetian Mountains

Ceska Kamenice

Rests of rocky castle Šaunštejn are situated on a narrow sandstone block about 1 km north of village Vysoká Lípa

It was founded probably in 14th century by so-called Česká stezka (Czech road) near branching line to Hřensko and river Labe (Elbe). Later the castle lost its importance, on the end of 15th century it was already abandoned. After 30-years war rests of castle became refuge of Sweden deserters and robbers. That is why people began to call it Loupežnický hrad (Robber´s castle).
